Celebrating Monarch’s 30th Anniversary

February 7, 2017

This year Monarch celebrates 30 years of serving the learning needs of San Diego students experiencing homelessness. What started as a place of refuge for these students has transformed into the only K-12 public school of its kind in the country, serving over 300 students each day!

Monarch School’s mission has remained the same over the years- to provide education and opportunity to transform the lives of students experiencing
homelessness.

As Monarch CEO Erin Spiewak said during our Annual Fundraiser, “I’m proud of what we have accomplished, both in our growth and our steadfast focus on student learning.”

As the homeless crisis in our community has reached a scale never seen before, Monarch is needed now more than ever. Fortunately, our work over the past 30 years has taught us that with a supportive community, interventions, and services, students can overcome the impacts of homelessness.

Looking to the future, Monarch’s long-term goal includes building capacity to continue empowering students to succeed both in school and in life.
